Perception Is Not Reality
Reality is not subjective. Perception IS subjective. Reality is what it is regardless of how you choose to look at it. There are aspects of reality that we may not understand, but our interpretations of the unknown or mysterious do not define it. This is why the truth-discovery journey is important. Truth is What Is, not what we believe it to be. Belief can have a positive effect on us in personal ways such as believing in oneself, but when it comes to truth it is irrelevant.
Imagine reality/truth as the unwavering straight line in the graphic above. Then imagine human perception as the waveform over the straight line. If the squiggly line of a waveform is very low (red line) it will intercept the straight line very infrequently. If it is much higher in frequency (blue line), it will hit that line more frequently.
In other words, if our consciousness is at a low frequency where we’re deeply rooted in subjective beliefs, feelings and ego, it isn’t going to connect with truth very often. If it’s at a higher frequency where we’re more receptive and mindful, it will connect with truth much more frequently.
Perception is not reality. Our job is to align our perceptions TO reality.
The New Age Movement likes to use the term “higher consciousness” to refer to some mystical state of being, but that’s not what it means. To have higher consciousness is to have a higher level of awareness of patterns, correlations and meaning, both within the self and in the environment of which the self exists. The New Age rejects this, putting more emphasis on personal feeling, bliss-chasing, and placating the ego. The last thing it cares about is truth, especially if it’s considered “negative.” One of the biggest deceptions of the New Age is that we should ignore the negative. That is UN-consciousness, not enlightenment.
You cannot fight evil if you refuse to understand what it is or how it functions. Power isn’t given to evil by acknowledging it, but by pretending it isn’t there. It festers and grows in the shadows, not the light. This is the purpose of the New Age Movement. It will use spiritual terms to reel you in, then stifle your consciousness and spirit to resist. We see a similar tactic in the general media environment with the use of euphemism, censorship and “cancel culture.” Truth, regardless of its nature, doesn’t go away just because you don’t want to acknowledge it. It has to be faced if we want to create any positive change.
The higher your consciousness, the more receptive you are to What Is. The lower it is, the more you’re going to buy into solipsistic notions like “reality and truth are subjective” or “it’s true for me, so it’s MY truth.” Such notions cheapen the truth and deny reality. We all have our own unique perceptions and vantage points for discovering it, but we cannot determine the veracity of anything by how it makes us feel. We have to employ scientific methods like the Trivium and Quadrivium.
Truth – whether on the material or spiritual plane – is an unwavering and eternal thing that must be discovered through science, reason and philosophy, not emotions. Emotions are there to help us stay on a path of right livelihood. When we do a bad thing, we feel shame or guilt so that we stop doing harm to others. When injustice is happening, we feel anger which can motivate us to do the right thing. When we connect with others, we feel joy and love to remind us that we’re all in this together. If, however, we learn something new it doesn’t stop being true just because it frightens us, conflicts with our current perceptions, or insults our pre-existing belief systems. That’s a low-consciousness mindset. We have to align our perceptions to the truth, whatever it may be or however it may make us feel.
Again, look into the Trivium Method. It’s not only the best method of truth-discovery, it’s how we create our reality together. We take in information, we process it, and then we act upon it. If the information is true, and we accept it and understand it, we create positive results. If it’s bad info, we create negative results. This is our nature: programmability. Let’s clear out the religious and pseudo-spiritual dross and re-program ourselves with truth.
Here’s a great presentation on The Trivium:
